Comviva planned to upgrade the ETL platform from Jaspersoft Talend 7.3 to Qlik Talend 8 for one of its clients, while also moving database workloads from Oracle to PostgreSQL.
The objective was to modernize the platform without disrupting ongoing business data processes.
Key challenges included:
• End of Support from Jaspersoft Talend from Jan 2026
• Managing and reviewing 315 ETL jobs with varying complexity
• Ensuring database logic worked correctly in the new PostgreSQL environment
• Handling large data volumes while maintaining performance stability
• Implementing Talend 8 in the environment for the first time
The migration was executed in structured phases:
• Assessed and categorized all jobs (unique, duplicate, ignored, empty)
• Migrated 315 active jobs to Talend 8
• Converted Oracle-specific SQL logic to PostgreSQL-compatible SQL ensuring functional equivalence
• Improved performance through query tuning and database indexing
• Simplified job design by removing unnecessary components
• Deployed all jobs through Git and Talend Administration Center (TAC)
• Created detailed documentation for future reference and maintenance
Testing & Validation
• Conducted functional and regression testing for migrated jobs
• Validated job execution from Talend Administration Center
• Performed performance checks for high-volume jobs
• Worked closely with client stakeholders to ensure successful validation
High-Level Architecture
Source systems feed data into Talend 8 ETL jobs where transformation and optimization logic is applied. The processed data is then loaded into PostgreSQL for downstream operational use.
All Talend job artifacts are version-controlled in Git and built packages are published to Nexus Repository for controlled deployment. Job execution, scheduling, and monitoring are managed through Talend Administration Center (TAC).
